All 11+ tests include a reading comprehension (RC) section. However, there are differences between the formats of different 11+ tests. The most obvious difference is that between the multiple choice tests and the standard response tests. Multiple choice tests are the most common type of RC test and are offered by the two main test providers - CEM and GL - as well as some schools. In multiple choice tests, test takers typically have to choice a single correct answer from 4 or 5 answer choices. In standard response tests, the test taker typically has to provide a written response to the question.

Because the two types of format share some things in common - e.g., they both contain reading material - then some of the skills students require are the same. However, because the two formats also differ, some different skills are required for each. Below is some test material for each format for students to practise with.
